Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
