The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
