Per recent claims from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a 20-year prison term for trafficking offenses, is allegedly readying a clemency request for review by the presidential administration.

Preferential Handling Alleged at Federal Prison

Congressional Democrats on the judicial oversight panel revealed that a source provided evidence indicating the inmate is working on the clemency petition. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, declared in a official statement that the facility's chief was “helping” the convict with document preparation and submission to support her bid for executive mercy.

The exact content of the “commutation application” are unclear, the congressman noted.

Claimed Perks and Special Accommodations

The representative claims that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her living area, and the supervisor has “personally arranged” private meetings for Maxwell and her guests.

The visits allegedly include a designated private space for attendees and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her associates.

Maxwell’s visitors were also reportedly permitted to bring computers, which the congressman characterized as an “unprecedented action” given the security risk and chance of unmonitored communications.

In one alleged instance, when communications failed for other inmates, Maxwell was given specific instructions about instructing her associates to contact and how staff would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The source also allegedly told House Democrats that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she reportedly employed the official as her private aide.

The statement indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to the inmate, for her to examine and change and provide them back to the warden to scan and provide to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Other privileges allegedly granted to Maxwell include time to “play with” a trainee assistance dog – a benefit not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has thought about,” the spokesperson added.

Recent Background

Recently, it was reported that she told friends and family in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

In August, Maxwell was moved from a secure facility in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most inmates are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

This move, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as the President's private attorney.

That interview came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own connections to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, the congressman also revealed that he had dispatched a communication to Trump, demanding answers about the whistleblower’s allegations, and called on the president to reject Maxwell’s commutation request.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” the representative stated in the document. “The government must not offer her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with federal law enforcement officials attending to her requests, or with any special treatment or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche appear for a public congressional hearing to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

Raskin asked whether he had discussed a potential commutation for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had instructed him or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the move or special conditions in detention, and whether she, her lawyers, relatives or agents have made any commitments to Trump or his attorneys.

Raskin has asked for a response to the questions by the specified date.

In October, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
